Jenny Hayward is a British painter with a first class hons degree in Sculpture from the University of Brighton and an MA in Fine Art Media from the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL.
She grew up in a wild, beautiful part of North Wales and studied under the Welsh Landscape painter Peter Prendergast, at Bangor University. The forms and energy of that landscape are deeply imprinted and come instinctively. She describes her work as an embodied and responsive process of translation and connection - a conversation between herself and the paper, paint, brush, axe, between body and object . Paintings merge inner and outer landscapes, nature, body, sensory experience, memory, place and time meet in her energy filled work. She is interested in the vibrancy of matter and the resonance that draws us in to relationship with objects and places just as it does with people.
Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Plough Arts, Devon, Star Brewery Gallery, Lewes, East Sussex, and Meiklejohn Gallery, Lewes, East Sussex.
She has been Artist in Residence at Towner Gallery, East Sussex, performed her axe drawings at the International Drawing Festival in Brighton, delivered a Pecha Kucha talk and workshops on experimental drawing and had poetry and drawings published in Dark Mountain, Unpsychology Magazine and Watermarks Anthology.
